Cientistas da Universidade Johns Hopkins, nos Estados Unidos, analisaram os hábitos e a função pulmonar de aproximadamente 650 adultos em 2002. Após dez anos, repetiram os exames. Foi quando notaram que quem comia ao menos dois tomates ao dia ou três porções de frutas, especialmente maçã, tinha os pulmões mais preservados. O benefício foi expressivo inclusive para ex-tabagistas.
Médicos da Sociedade Brasileira de Pneumologia e Tisiologia, apostam suas fichas nos poderes anti-inflamatório e antioxidante dos alimentos. A dica, no entanto, é não demorar para investir neles.

Câncer de pele – Pesquisadores americanos viram, em cobaias, que o consumo diário de tomate reduziu em 50% o risco de esse tumor aparecer.
Doenças cardíacas – Cientistas identificaram que a ingestão de maçã diminuiria os níveis de uma substância responsável pelo endurecimento das artérias.
Derrame – Altos níveis de licopeno, a substância mais célebre do tomate, já foram ligados a um menor risco de AVC e doenças cardiovasculares.
Obesidade – Colocar a fruta na rotina dá uma força na perda e na manutenção do peso. Isso porque a maçã tem fibras, que promovem saciedade.
