A Câmara de Vereadores de Gravataí realizou sessão solene, na noite de 21 de novembro, para a entrega do Troféu Sônia Paim. O prêmio, que celebra a Consciência Negra, contemplou seis homenageados.
O presidente do Legislativo, vereador Nadir Rocha, lembrou de Sônia Paim, afirmando que “essa premiação é alusiva à importância de uma mulher negra, professora de longa história em questões sociais e políticas e a primeira negra a ocupar um cargo de secretária municipal em Gravataí”. Ele ressaltou que “ainda precisamos avançar muito com políticas públicas de valorização da comunidade negra em todos os cantos do país”. O presidente da Câmara disse que “todas as ações precisam partir de nós mesmos, não apenas de nós, parlamentares, mas de todos, com o respeito que cada um merece. Podemos dizer que, em cada ato de preconceito, retornamos aos séculos 17, 18 e 19”.
Maria Luísa Rodrigues, que discursou como representante dos premiados, lembrou de quando conheceu Sônia Paim, na época em que esta era secretária de Educação do município, no início da década de 1990. “Mulher negra, professora e educadora. Convivi com ela e aprendi com ela, com sua simplicidade. Ela estava lá para nos amparar”, disse.

Área cultural:
Augusto Alencar: É professor de história e filosofia, griôt e também mestre-sala do carnaval. Ele ainda desenvolve projetos sociais de hip hop com crianças e adolescentes.
Rococó Produções Artísticas e Culturais: É um grupo artistico com diversos projetos de incentivo dentro da área teatral. É também responsável pelo espetáculo multipremiado, Era uma Vez, Contos, Lendas e Cantigas.
Área religiosa:
Carlos Barbosa Figueiredo: Indicado pelo Centro de Umbanda Guerreiros da Luz, Pai Carlinhos tem um papel fundamental e é tido como elo entre o lado espiritual e social nas comunidades onde atua.
Vilmar Eduardo da Silva: É funcionário público aposentado, e atuante em sua comunidade da igreja católica, onde participa de diversas pastorais, como a Pastoral Afro, fazendo a animação em encontros e formações religiosas.
Área social:
Maria Luísa Rodrigues: Líder comunitária, foi a primeira catequista negra a celebrar uma missa inculturada no município, além de ser a primeira professora a criar uma biblioteca comunitária. É a presidente do Instituto Cultural Kizomba.
Rosane dos Santos Brito: É assistente social, educadora popular e desenvolve projetos sociais com crianças e adolescentes sobre a importância do movimento negro na sociedade. É funcionária pública da Prefeitura de Gravataí há 34 anos.
